Many carers are feeling uneasy about what Thriving Kids could mean in real life.

For families already juggling therapies, appointments, funding systems, and daily care, there’s a fear that this program could shift even more responsibility onto time poor carers, without enough structure or support to hold it all together.

There’s also confusion around language. Autism and developmental needs are not neat boxes, and terms like “mild” and “moderate” don’t always reflect a child’s day to day reality. Carers are left wondering who decides, where their child fits, and what happens if support depends on someone else’s interpretation.
Carers don’t need more uncertainty.

They need clear pathways, shared responsibility, and systems that truly lighten the load.

I don’t believe this journey was accidental.

One day I woke up and felt called to share my son’s journey not knowing why, not knowing where it would lead. I simply followed the nudge to start a page, then asked if anyone wanted to meet locally… just to talk, to connect, to not feel so alone.

What followed has been something I never imagined.

When I first received my son’s diagnosis, I walked through some of the hardest seasons of my life. Confusion. Grief. Fear. And yet, looking back, I can see how God was preparing me, shaping me, using every business skill, every hard lesson, every talent I didn’t even realise I had… and turning it into a charity I never planned to see coming.

His timing has been incredible.

And every time it feels heavy… every time I pray, “God, if this isn’t your will, please show me a way out” He shows up with a solution instead.

That’s my sign to keep going.

People often ask me, “How do you do it?” or “Why don’t you do something easier?”

But this is it.
This is my purpose.
This is my journey.

Even on the hard days, this work brings me joy. Because I get to live out my passion and get to help others at the same time.

And for that, I’m deeply grateful. 🩷

It was such a pleasure and an honour to be invited back to speak at @fairfoundationsau Childcare Educators workshop last week.

I shared my personal journey as a carer, the supports we offer to other carers, and practical tips that educators can use when connecting with parents during drop-off and pick-up times.

Speaking about our experience always brings a mix of emotions. I remember so clearly when we first received Mr J’s diagnosis, the overwhelm, the uncertainty, the fear of the unknown.

But standing in front of these amazing educators, I could see how far we’ve come and how much has changed. There’s hope and progress.

This is why I love sharing our story with carers and educators to give families hope when they need it most. Because it does get better. It will be okay.

And having the right support systems in place, including understanding and informed childcare educators, makes all the difference.

We started this because no family should walk the autism journey alone. Because I lived that isolation. That fear. That desperate need for community.
